Akko, Rosh Haniqra, Bahai Gardens

On the northern side of Haifa bay is the city of Akko. Akko is a small peninsula that juts out into the Mediterranean and has been an important port city since Canaanite period. The city has been declared a World Heritage Site and shows off its underground Crusader ruins along with its more modern Ottoman construction. We will visit the Crusader Knights Halls, Crusader Templar tunnel, Turkish bath, and the Arab market. The city is a true buried treasure that shines in its authenticity.

Leaving the city we head north to the border and Rosh Haniqra or carved head. This is the only spot along the coast of Israel that has no shore that is passable by foot. Here we will take a cable car down to view some magnificent grottos that have been naturally carved by the forces of nature. Here we will walk thru train tunnels that the British built to supply their troops fighting in WWII.

Going south we go around Haifa Bay and head for the Carmel. Sitting on the slopes of the Carmel looking down at the port of Haifa is the most beautiful symmetric harmonic garden you have ever layed your eyes on. The Bahai, who are followers of the Baha u llah have landscaped a memorial garden that when viewed leaves an impression of the spectacular natural beauty of our living world. It is truly awe inspiring. We will take a short walk thru the garden and take many pictures in an attempt to capture this beauty.
